#RockYourBlog August Writing Prompts: Are You Close with Your Boss?

The topic for today, August 16, is: Are you and your current or former boss close?

The boss/employee relationship is strange. I don’t think it’s easy to be good friends when you have that type of relationship, even if you’re a hard-working employee and a fair boss. When I was employed outside my home, I remember being anxious to become a manager (boss). I thought it would be so great to be in charge. But when I was promoted and was put in charge of other employees, I found that being “the boss” was an awfully lonely job. When I was “just” an employee, the other employees would hang out with me and we’d socialize. But when I was the boss, they no longer sought me out. It was now up to me to uphold the rules and to be sure that they weren’t wasting time gossiping, slacking off on work, etc. It’s not easy to be friends with someone who can write you up for being late to work every day! There’s always going to be that line between a boss and employee. So, no, I don’t have a close relationship with a current or former boss. Even though I’ve always gotten along well with my bosses because I did my job well, it remained mostly a work relationship and didn’t extend beyond that.
