The topic for today, August 7, is: What was your favorite field trip from school?
Honestly, I don’t really remember any field trips from school. I guess they weren’t very memorable (or my memory is going)! I don’t think we did as many field trips back then, either, as kids do now. But I do recall a school trip in high school when our French Club went to Europe! We visited England, France and Switzerland, and had an amazing time (except for the bed bugs in our Paris hotel). I recall riding in a cab in London, and the cab driver was making fun of our American accents. He asked where we were going next, and we said “France.” Well, of course, we pronounced with a flat “a” like it rhymes with “ants.” But he pretended that he had no clue what country we were talking about! Finally, he joked, “Oh, you mean you’re going to ‘frahnce’!” (rhymes with “jaunts”), and we realized he had been making fun of us all along. Anyway, we got to see lovely London and the cliffs of Dover. We took the ferry over to France and saw Paris and many other French attractions (Versailles, Notre Dame, Normandy, etc.). It was definitely a memorable way to close out high school!
So, what about you? What was your favorite field (or school) trip?
