Write a First Draft in 30 Days During National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)!

Have you been stalling on writing your first (or next) novel? Here’s some motivation for you: National Novel Writing Month (affectionately known as NaNoWriMo) begins on Friday! Yes, the month of November is when thousands of people around the world commit to writing the entire first draft of their novel (50,000 words) in 30 days. The key, they say, is just to write, write, write! Ignore self-doubts, leave the editing for later, and just plunge into your book. Does this method work? Since National Novel Writing Month was established in 1999, more than 250 NaNoWriMo novels have been traditionally published. They include Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, Hugh Howey’s Wool, Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Jason Hough’s The Darwin Elevator, and Marissa Meyer’s Cinder. If they can do it, you can, too! Visit http://nanowrimo.org for more information. If you’re the social type, join the forums and/or find a local event to meet up with other budding authors in November!
