I recently read Where Courage Calls by one of my favorite historical fiction novelists, Janette Oke. (I’ll be posting my full review soon!) I really admired the supporting character of Molly. She had lost her husband in a mining accident and taken in two teenagers who’d been orphaned by the tragedy. She supported all of them by operating a boardinghouse. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she was a mother-like figure to many of the people in town, feeding their stomachs and their hearts with food and wisdom. I don’t know if I could have been as strong in her situation! Molly was truly an inspiration to the people in her community and to me.

I love historical fiction. Another book to add to my TBR.
ReplyDeleteI love a good strong character. Sh sounds very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI'm normally not a fan of historical fiction but this has caught my interest. I love strong female roles and she definitely seems and sounds like a strong female. Not sure I would be able to be that strong if I was in that situation.
