For the LOVE of Books Hop: What Is Your Favorite EVER Romance Read?

I first started reading romance novels when I was in high school, and the author who always made the biggest impression on me was Victoria Holt. The first book of hers I read was called Mistress of Mellyn.

All of Victoria Holt's books are historical fiction and based in England. I fell in love with the genre and devoured all of her books. Victoria Holt passed away many years ago (after continuing to write into her 80s), but I hope to read all of her books all over again soon. She also published books under the pseudonyms of Philippa Carr, Jean Plaidy and others, but her Gothic novels as Victoria Holt (there are 32 of them, I believe) were my favorite. (Her real name was actually Eleanor Hibbert!) In all, she wrote more than 200 books that sold more than 100 million copies in 20 languages worldwide. So, thank you, Eleanor aka Victoria, for setting me on a lifelong journey of reading historical romance!

  1. I'm going to search your author, especially as she is from England like myself and I do love historical fiction.

  2. Thank you for the backstory of the author. I never thought of that.

  3. Victoria Holt wrote some really great historical romances. I have read many of them over the years. Maybe I will go back and revisit a couple of them-definitely worth a second or even a third read.
