The topic for today, August 15, is: Describe a good memory with your best friend.

I’m not sure if this question is referring to a current best friend or a childhood best friend, but I’m going to go with the latter. When I was in elementary school, I had a best friend named Mary Beth. We lived in the same neighborhood (the school was right across the street from my house), and we met in kindergarten. I don’t remember a lot from those days, but for some reason this memory has stuck with me: Mary Beth and I were jumping rope together on the playground when a little boy from our class came up to us. His name was Otis, and he was a chubby kid with freckles. I think he had just moved to our Michigan town from the South because he spoke with a Southern accent. He looked at the two of us and said: “You girls look purty because you are purty!” It was so sweet! I think it was our first compliment from a boy, and of course we broke out in giggles! I wonder if Otis is still as sweet today…
