Literary Addicts Weekly Meme: Best Movies Based on Books

It’s Wednesday! And that means it’s time for the Literary Addicts Weekly Meme! Every Wednesday, they suggest a fun theme to write about. The theme of this week: What is the best movie based on the book?

There are, of course, a huge number of movies that have been based on books. The problem is that I have often not had a chance to read the book, so I can’t judge the movie based on its adherence to the plot or characters in the book. Some of the movies I’ve watched in which I’ve also read the book(s) and thought they did a good job were:

Pride and Prejudice (starring Colin Firth, although the infamous wet shirt scene is not in the book!)
Twilight movies
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Prince Caspian was horrible)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies
Eat Pray Love
Julie & Julia

I liked the movie, Beautiful Creatures, because I saw it before I read the book. But after reading the book (and series), I realized that they had changed a LOT in the movie, so I didn’t like it as much.

What movies do you think did a good job of sticking to the book? CLICK HERE for links to the other blogs participating in this meme to find out their choices!
